Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains (1982) Composed of brashly cynical lead singer Corinne “Third Degree” Burns (Lane, barely 15 at the start of shooting), her sister Tracy (Marin Kanter), and cousin Jennifer (Laura Dern, at 13!), the Shaggs-like trio become an overnight sensation thanks to their in-your-face look and attitude. With skunk-striped hair and red lightning-bolt eye makeup that inspire a legion of copycat fans, Burns spits at her audience: “I’m perfect, but nobody in this shithole gets me because I don’t put out.” Teen rebellion is a fact of life, but just how comfortable was previously squeaky-clean Lane in such a provocative role? “You mean, like, ‘Here are my tits?’ ” Lane says with a laugh, nearly three decades later. “I was freaking out! The most poignant irony is that my daughter is going to be exactly the age I was when the DVD comes out. It’s not shocking, just a little bit embarrassing that it happens to be your mom.” And while Lane may look tough on film, there’s a reason they call it acting. “At 15, you’re just an egg out of its shell walking around, trying desperately not to get maimed emotionally. I was just mortified that we were supposed to be as bad as we were as a band. That was my 15-year-old agenda: Do we really have to suck this bad? Pozor, vizita! (1982) Veronika Jeníková was only seventeen years old during filming, yet the script called for a nude scene. Jeníková was not ready for such a thing and all the time she hoped that director Karel Kachyna would change his mind and not demand that she strip completely naked in front of the camera. But the director didn't want to change his mind and even Veronika's mother's intercession didn't help. The budding actress then wondered how she could avoid the tricky scene. She even feigned illness. In the end, the director only agreed to shoot the nude footage at the very end of the shoot. Sabine Kleist, 7 Jahre... (1982) In a 2005 interview, Petra Lämmel said that the most difficult scenes in the film were the one where she had to hit a pregnant woman and the one in the shower: "I definitely didn't want to hit her stomach because I thought there was a baby inside. The film crew kept explaining this to me and showing me the pillow, but I still didn't want it. It took me a lot of effort. There were also problems with the segment where I'm standing naked in the bathtub. That was really bad: I didn't want to take my clothes off. The two childcare workers spoke to me with the tongues of angels, telling me that it was important and that nobody would see that only the camera and Helmut Bergmann were in the room during the shoot. Which was total nonsense, after all, the movie was showing in the cinema: but that's how they managed to persuade me. Der Fan (1982) In her contract, popular German TV moderator Désirée Nosbusch agreed to shoot the nude scenes together with Bodo Staiger. After stills from those scenes were published during the marketing campaign of the film, she tried to stop the release. After a long trial that caused a scandal in German press, she finally lost and the film was released in the original version by director Eckhart Schmidt. Natja Brunckhorst: I thought it was strange that everyone on set was so strange, there was such a tense atmosphere first thing in the morning. Everyone was sent out, except for the camera. And Uli Edel said very seriously: Yes, we're doing the sex scene today. Everyone thought they should be ashamed. Sex scene? I thought, what is that? That's what made it difficult for me. Thomas Haustein: Well, maybe it was all because I went to Uli beforehand and said: I've never slept with a girl before. It was supposed to be a deflowering and I had no idea. And it came to me: this was a real guy, not an actor, trying to pick me up. Were you nervous? -I was not involved in the gay world and of course I was nervous to act out something like that in front of a camera. This was also the same with my first sex scene with Natja. I hadn’t had any sexual experiences yet! So before the scene with my male client, Uli got me alone without the crew, just me and him, and he got behind me to demonstrate how it should look.
