Behind the scenes

From an interview with Veronique Jannot:
...Almost 44 years since the series "Paul et Virginie" was shot, what do you feel by returning in the footsteps of your youth?
It is very exciting to come back here after all these years. I was 16 years old during this shoot which lasted 3 months. Of course I find the island changed and more developed, but there is always this magical soul that the Mauritians have kept intact. What has not really changed is the kindness of people. It is the greatest wealth of Mauritius.
What are your best memories of this shoot?
In the end, it was the discovery of the islands that upset me. At the time, few people knew Mauritius. I spent most of my free time on the beach with stray dogs. I knew a deserted Deer Island with only a hut. We went to picnic every Sunday and we bathed in the lagoon...
